Legislative Day at the Capitol

Calling all Mizzou
Alumni, Friends, Fans and Students!

What is it?   

The Mizzou Alumni Association encourages all Mizzou alumni and friends to participate. The purpose is to:

Ø       Thank legislators for their support of the University of Missouri.

Ø       Advocate for future support of Missouri’s Flagship University and seek support for the 2009 Mizzou Alumni Association legislative platform.

 

When is it?          Wednesday, April 22, 2009

 

Where is it?        Capitol Rotunda, Jefferson City

 

What Happens?

7:30-10 a.m.                 Registration (First Floor Rotunda)

7:30-9 a.m.                   Friends of Mizzou and MU Extension continental breakfast for attendees, legislators and staff (Senate Alcove)

8-9:30 a.m.                   Individual legislator visits

9:30 a.m.                      Rally for all Legislative Day attendees (First Floor Rotunda)  Governor Nixon has been invited to speak.

11 a.m. – 1 p.m.             Box lunches available – ($10 per lunch, advanced registration is required) (3rd Floor Rotunda)

NOON                            T. Boone Pickens will be on remote video from the University of Missouri, Jesse Auditorium,  into the Capitol, Senate Conference Room 1 

1-3 p.m.                        Continued legislator visits

3 p.m.                           Day ends officially - you may continue legislative visits if desired.

 

Volunteers are to make appointments with legislators prior to Legislative Day; however, if you are unable to do so, drop-in visits are acceptable as well. A rally will be held at 9:30 a.m. for all University supporters to hear legislative leadership address the group. 

 

How do I get involved?

 

Complete the Alumni Alliance Banquet and Legislative Day at the Capitol Registration.  If you have any questions please contact M. Dianne Drainer, MAA Advocacy Director via email at drainermd@missouri.edu or by phone at 573-882-0078.  The only charge for the day’s activities is the lunch ($10.00) which you will need to register for in advance.

 

Alumni Alliance Awards Dinner

 

Also please join us:  Representative Bryan Pratt to be honored:  UM Alumni Alliance awardees will be recognized at a banquet at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City on Tuesday, April 21, the evening prior to the Legislative Day.   MU’s honoree is Representative Pratt, an ardent supporter of MU, who received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri in 1995 and a juris doctor from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1999.

7:00 p.m.        Dinner served

 

7:30 p.m.        Awards Presentation

 

 

  

For alumni chapters or organizations participating in the Columns or HONORS Programs, participation in Legislative Day can earn your chapter, school or college a Respect credit.

If you have 2500 or fewer grads in your alumni organization, two members need to participate in Legislative Day.
If you have 
2501-10,000 grads in your alumni organization, three members need to participate in Legislative Day.
If you have 10,001 or more grads in your alumni organization, five members need to participate in Legislative Day.
